17361 Dumfries Rd., Dumfries, VA 22026
Location:
The Rt. 234 Commuter Lot is conveniently located off Exit 152, east of I-95, just before Rt. 1, directly across from McDonald’s.
Description:
A popular pickup spot for drivers commuting from Dumfries, Triangle, and points further south, this lot was once the starting point for northbound I-95 HOV slug-lines. With the HOV lanes now extending to Rt. 610 in Garrisonville, Rt. 234 remains a high-demand lot. Morning pickups are typically quick, allowing easy access to I-95. However, afternoon drop-offs can be trickier due to a required left turn and increased traffic from nearly housing developments. The Potomac Neabsco (Opitz) Garage was designed to help alleviate congestion at Rt. 234. If the lot is full, consider Potomac Neabsco or Horner Dr. as alternatives.
Destinations:
- Pentagon
- 14th Street (all points)
- 18th Street (all points)
- L’Enfant
- Crystal City
- Rosslyn
- Navy Yard (new)
Best Hours:
This is an early commuter lot and typically fills up by 7:00 am.
Drivers:
Drivers follow a designated traffic flow (as shown on the map) and call out their destination. For example, a driver heading to 14th Street or 18th Street will specify the furthest point they are going (e.g., 14th and L) so riders with all drop-off points up to L Street can join. For the Pentagon, simply stating “Pentagon” is sufficient.
Drop-Off Points:
Riders are dropped off at the designated bus bay.
Parking:
The lot offers approximately 850 free parking spaces.
Public Transportation:
- OmniRide
Returning Outbound Lines:
- Pentagon
- L’Enfant
